Teeth that are are palced in a Straight line and give a pleasing smile are almost a pre-requsite.

The art and science of straightening teeth is called Orthodontics. Braces both the Metallic ones and the White Tooth Colored ones are routinely used at The Clinic to reposition teeth to the desired positions.

Wires made from NASA technology make the treatment very comfortable. The time required for treatment varies according to the problem. The end results are esthetically good. They also place the teeth is a position that increases their longivity.

There was a myth that this treatment could not be done after a certain age. This is a fallacy. Today, age is not a reason to avoid Orthodontic Treatment. The only pre-requisite is that the bone should be healthy.

White braces are usually used for adults and the treatment time is usually shorter. The shape of the teeth is also modified if needed.

Types of Braces and appliances:

1. Traditional Metal Braces Metal Braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than even before. Made of high grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (ligature rings) for a more unique and colorful smile.

2. Ceramic Braces Have you been thinking about getting braces but are concerned with the appearance that traditional metal braces offer? Perhaps you should consider clear / ceramic braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns.

3. Gold Braces Discover a new element in orthodontics… GOLD! The classic beauty and elegance of gold is now available in orthodontic braces. They are made of stainless steel but are uniquely coated in gold.

4. Lingual Braces Lingual braces work in much the same way as their traditional counterparts. However there’s one important cosmetic difference; the lact of the usual metal supports on the front of your teeth. The key difference with Lingual braces is that they can be placed on the rear of your teeth, hiding the majority of the metal parts.

5. Invisalign Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners to straighten you teeth, and no one can tell you are wearing Invisalign because it’s invisible! Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle.

6. Forsus Fixed Functional Appliances The Forsus Fatigue Resistance Device is 3M unitek’s innovation for the correction of Class II jaw discrepancies. It may be placed in a single appointment. Its components are a telescopic spring on a small metal extension to provide light, continuous pressure on the teeth. Forsus also works with the exisitng braces and wires for simultaneous correction of the malocclusion.

7. Twin Force Bite Corrector Twin force bite corrector was recently introduced for correction of class II malocclusion. It is a rigid fixed functional appliance. It introduces an oscillating force through the incorporation of coil spring within the cylinder/plunger system. Another advantage of it over HERBST is that it allows alteration of the vector of the intermaxillary force to a certain degree.

8. Twin Block Appliance It is a myofunctional appliance used for the treatment of Class II malocclusion in the growing patient. It is made of acrylic plate cemented on the upper and lower jaws. It has to be placed in for 6-9 months for skeletal correction.

9. Orthopedic Appliances (Headgear) Headgear is used to treat patients whose teeth are in overbite, with the upper jaw forward of the lower jaw or an “underbite” with the lower jaw forward of the uper jaw. Headgear gently “pulls” on your teeth to restrict further forward growth of your upper teeth and jaw.

10. Palatal Expander The Palatal Expander “Expands”(or widens) your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. Your orthodontist will instruct you about when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to solidify the expansion and to prevent regression.
